Diferencess Between Application Software & System Software

System software?
any computer software which manages and controls computer hardware so that application software can perform a task.
E.g;Microsoft Windows,Mac OS X or Linux( kinda operating system)

Application software?
consists of programs designed to make users more productive and, or assist them with personal tasks. It is widely used related to communications such as Web browser.
Web Browser allows users with an Internet connection to access and view Web Pages.
Examples of web browser are Internet Explorer, Fire fox, Safari, Opera and Netscape.

Variety uses of application software..
  • to make business activity more efficient
  • to assist with grapic and multimedia project
  • to support home, personal and educational task
  • to facilitate communications
Other types of application software...
  • word processing software
  • spreadsheet software
  • database software
  • presentation graphics software.
Operating system (OS) (sometimes called the platform) coordinates all activities among computer hardware resources.

Some functions of an operating system...
  • start the computer
  • manage programs
  • provide a user interface
  • administer security
  • monitor performance
  • manage memory
  • provide file management and other utilities
  • establish an internet connection
  • control a network and schedule jobs and configure devices.
Three categories of operating systems..
  • stand-alone
  • embedded
  • network.
Utility programs is a system software that performs maintenance-type tasks (also called utility).

Stand- alone utility programs consists..
  • virus
  • antivirus program
  • spyware
  • internet filters
  • file compression utility,
  • CD/DVD burning software
  • personal computer maintenance utility.
System software contrasts with application software, which are programs that enable the end-user to perform specific, productive tasks, such as word processing or image manipulation.

Input and Output

Input
Input is any data and instructions entered into the memory of a computer. An input device is any hardware component that allows users to enter data and instruction into a computer.
E.g;mouse,keyboard,touch screen,digital pen,stylus,graphic tablet,game controller,joystick,bar code reader,magnetic stope card reader,PC video camera and digital video camera.

Other Input Devices

1.Voice Input
Is the process of entering by speaking into a microphone. Voice recognition also called speech recognition,is a computer's capability of distinguishing spoken words. The vocabulary of voice recognition programs can range from two words to millions of words.

2.Audio Input
is a part of a larger category of input called audio input. Is a process of entering any sounds into the computers such as speech, sound effects and musics. Users enter sounds into computer via devices such as phone, tape players CD/DVD players or radio, each of which plugs in a port on the sound card.

Output

Is data that has been process into a useful form. That is computers process data (input) into information (output). Output device is any hardware component that can convey information to one or more people. E.g;display devices, monitor,LCD monitor, plasma monitor,CRT monitor,Printer, nonimpact, laser, photo, thermal, mobile, plotter, impact

Other Output Devices

1.Computer component that produces music, speech, or other sounds. E.g;Speakers, earphones, and earbuds are common devices

2.Voice output
Computer talks to you through speakers on computer.Internet telephony allows you to have conversationover the Internet.

3.FAX

4.Multifunction Peripheral
Is a single device that looks like a copy machine but provides the functionality of a printer, scanner, copy machine, and perhaps a fax machine.

.Data Projector

Conclusion, output and input are very important in computer system because it help to make the users more easier in order to explore the computer..

computer perspective

Advantages of using computers is helps to shorten time-consuming and monotonous tasks of cutting, pasting and retrieval of field notes or interview transcripts.Computers are a useful aid for who have to work to tight deadlines.Programs can cope with both multiple codes and over-lapping codes which would be very difficult for the researcher to cope with without the aid of a computer. Some software can conduct multiple searches in which more than one code is searched much more quickly and efficiently than by the researcher.Programs can combine codes in complex searches.Programs can pick out instances of pre-defined categories which have been missed by the researcher during the initial analysis.Computers can be used to help the researcher overcome `analysis block'.The disadvantage of computer is In focus groups the group moves through a different sequence of events which is important in the analysis but cannot be recognised by a computer.Programs cannot understand the meaning of text.Software can only support the intellectual processes of the researcher. However they cannot be a substitute for these processes.Participants can change their opinions during an interview.A computer will not recognise this. The software might be beyond an individual's budget.User-error can lead to undetected mistakes or misleading results.Using computers can lead to an over-emphasis on mechanical procedures.
